Andrea Macina ~ WPICC Lead/Assistant Wedding Coordinator

I first met Andrea when she volunteered to be an assistant coordinator for one of our weddings

The wedding was held at the stunning Royal Ambassador in Caledon

first time I layed eyes on Andrea was at the wedding rehearsal. She was a cute ‘lil thing with a squeaky, girly voice

I gave her a few instructions for the rehearsal & from there she owned it!

She was confident, took charge & never was afraid to voice her opinion!

The next day at the wedding she took control & impressed me with everything she did

When we finally sat down to dinner, that’s when I asked her if she would like to join my team on a regular basis & thankfully, she said yes!!

I trust her so much that I immediately made her a lead coordinator, knowing that she would represent FCL Weddings like it was her own company & she gives 110% at every wedding, whether it’s just delivering flowers, doing set-up or coordinating a clients wedding from start to finish

I am so proud & very lucky to have Andrea on the FCL Team!

Amy Stevenson ~ WPICC & Gay Certified Lead/Assistant Wedding Coordinator

I first met Amy when I was the WPIC Durham Region Representative. My responsibility as a Reg. Rep was to organize events & learning seminars for WPIC alumni

My first event was a boat cruise for WPIC’ers! It was a wonderful & fun evening. I had vendors that I was promoting, a DJ, food & a 1 hour cruise around lake Ontario with 40+ wedding planners

I needed some help with organizing the event & Amy volunteered her services. She helped with set-up, registration & organizing vendors

Of course she did an amazing job!

Amy was also the Event/Wedding Manager at Mill Run Golf Club located in Uxbridge. The venue is only 10 minutes away from me, so of course we stayed in touch, not to mention we carpooled alot (since we were neighbors) when we attended networking events

Amy left Mill Run to pursue a job offer with EventSource. Amy really enjoyed working for them but was missing planning weddings & events and I thought wouldn’t it be great to have another amazing wedding coordinator on the FCL Team, so I popped the question & she said yes!!

I am so looking forward to working with Amy this season as I know my company is in great hands with her on the team

Andrea Reid ~ WPICC Wedding Decorator & owner/operator of Style Statements Wedding Decor

Andrea is a very talented decorator. We met a few years ago when I assisted her at a bridal show. After spending the day with Andrea, we hit it off & I began referring her to my clients for their wedding decor

We worked with each other several times in the past so it was a no-brainer when I asked her if she would like to colaborate in business. I wanted to offer my clients not just wedding flowers but decor as well, as flowers & decor go hand-in-hand

Couples really appreciate when they can discuss their wedding flowers & decor in one meeting

I truly feel our talents compliment each other not to mention we work very well together

When meeting with clients, Andrea & I will meet clients at their venue (if desired) so we can all discuss the over all look of their wedding. Andrea & I will design everything from ceremony to reception

And finally……….Me! Tracy Nolan ~ WPICC, CIFD & Gay Certified

I honestly never thought I would own my own business but I do & I absolutely love it!

For many years I had a desire to become a wedding planner but never followed through. Then one day I lost my job as a restaurant/bar manager & the rest is history!

I finally decided that this was the time to follow my dream & it was now or never

So I signed up to take the WPIC Certification course but before I did that, I realized I wanted to persue floral design as well & that it would be another service I could offer

Well….it turns out that floral design is my true love!

Don’t get me wrong, I love wedding planning but my true happy place is in my workshop creating beautiful bouquets & centerpieces

I became certified as a floral designer in January 2011 then 2 weeks later took the WPIC course & was certified in February 2011

First Comes Love Weddings & Floral Designs was born & we have been going steady & strong ever since!

To date, we have worked with many incredible couples & have done over 70 weddings

Ever wonder why your wedding flowers are so darn expensive?

Florists must be rich, as they charge such outrages prices, especially for a wedding!

Want to know why we charge what we do?

Lets start at the beginning, our training (assuming your florist is a certified floral designer), floral design school is not cheap (but so worth it) and that’s just the “basic techniques” course. Then there is all the extra training, books, videos, conferences & more courses…..

Now that we’re certified, we need a company name, logo, website, marketing materials,insurance, floral tools, flower cooler, vases, ribbon, floral foam, pins, glue, a workshop/office or a storefront, and so much more………

Now we need clients!

How do we find clients, or should I say, how do they find us? Bridal shows, print ads,certification courses, networking events, social media, SEO,blogging, vendor/venue referrals, continuing education, etc, etc…….

Ok, ok……we  now have our business up & running (Est. 2011), we receive an inquiry from a potential client

We set-up a complimentary consultation (many cases we will come to the client ~ a location close to their home/business or  the venue to meet with them). After our consultation with a potential client, we research pricing/flowers so we can provide the client with an accurate quote (sometimes this takes several emails back & fourth with many adjustments,etc.) Knowing this potential client has meetings set-up with other florists, we still continue to research & source out decor items for potential clients ~keep in mind we have not made 1 penny at this time

Wahooo! We just received an email from the potential client saying they would like to book us for their wedding!! We immediately draw up a contract for the client to read/confirm,sign & then send back to us along with a deposit (to be officially booked)

We DO NOT take a large deposits from our clients when they book, but our deposit ($250 initial payment) is non-refundable

We create a “client file” for all our booked clients. We encourage all our clients to send us pictures of bouquets, centerpieces, etc. that they like & we keep them on file & refer to them when we create their floral designs

We will contact our clients 4-6 weeks prior to their wedding to confirm ALL details before we order their flowers from our suppliers. And yes, flowers are expensive  (even wholesale) and they are perishable, therefore extra blooms need to be purchased incase of damage, spoilage or those naughty blooms that do not want to open in time for your big day, not to mention all the other items that most people do not even consider such as vases, floral tape, foam, deliver boxes & tissue, pins, wire, flower food, sealing sprays, cold glue, bouquet holders, corsage bracelets, tools, ribbon, broaches, etc, etc, etc.

THIS IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS!

5-7 days before the wedding, we will pick up all flowers, vases, etc. from our suppliers (in Mississauga). All flowers are packaged to protect them during transportation & trust me when I tell you, it’s a lot of packaging!

All flowers need to be processed once we get them back to our workshop. This includes removing all packaging, lower foliage, thorns, etc. All flowers MUST be re-cut (so they can rehydrate) & “quick dipped” in a hydrating solution, before being placed in a bucket of fresh, clean water (with flower food) Some flowers need to be left out of the cooler for a few hours, while others can be placed in the cooler right away & tropical flowers such as orchids cannot be placed in the cooler as they need to be kept in a warmer climate.

This process can take anywhere from 2-6 hours (depending on the size, & # of weddings)

Floral designers do not have beautiful manicures. We usually have short & broken nails, not to mention cut fingers from those pesky thorns. Our hands can be stained from certain flowers & itchy, watery eyes from pollen is very common too

Then we need to get things prepped for designing. All vases for the centerpieces will need to be cleaned. Depending on the design, they may require floral foam (that needs to be cut to size, soaked & taped in place) or a grid (a cris-cross pattern on the vase to keep flowers in place) & then they need to be “greened” w/ foliage  x’s  the # of centerpieces (10 -25+) & placed back into cooler until ready for designing

Then all boutonnieres & corsages need to be made ( we once had a wedding that required over 80 boutonnieres for family)

Followed by centerpieces, ceremony florals & bouquets (the average wedding will take up to 40-60 hours of researching, ordering, processing, prep & design, delivery & set-up/tear down time) When you break it down into what we actually make an hour, sometimes we barely make minimum wage

On the day of the wedding, we will ribbon wrap all bouquets & package all flowers for delivery. We deliver all personal flowers to our clients as per their requested location & preferred time. We will then proceed to the ceremony/reception location & set-up all flowers as per our clients request

We make sure all flowers are fresh & we always have “back up” blooms just in case we discover a wilted hydrangea or bruised rose

We give all our clients that personal touch by making sure all of their flowers & decor are perfect before we leave the venue. Better yet, if we are providing you with Wedding Day Management as well, we will make sure your Special Day runs as smoothly as possible, allowing you, our client, to enjoy every (stress free) minute of your wedding day that you worked so hard planning!

One of our favorite couples/families of all time!

We absolutely adored this bride & her mom. We worked with them for 12 months, planning their wedding

We met Meghan & her mom, Sandra at our office as they were looking for a wedding planner to help them with budget, design, vendors & all the little details for their August wedding

We had an “Initial Meeting” to discuss their wedding, what the needed from a wedding planner & to see if we were a good match for each other

One week later we got the call…….we were hired!!

Megan had many pictures of what she wanted for her wedding. Our job was to take those pictures & make them happen, within budget & without stress

We provided Full Planning, which includes Wedding Day Management & all Wedding Flowers

It was a hot day & Meghan & Kevin wanted their guests to be refreshed during the ceremony so we made this lovely water station w/flavoured water complete with gorgeous hydrangeas, eryngium & hanging amaranthus

By the time we got the bride down the aisle, the water station was dry….I guess the guests enjoyed it!

What a beautiful bride!

Ashley wanted her bouquet to be a soft pallet of blush pinks, ivory & silver. It had to be very pretty with a touch of rustic

We created her bouquet with gorgeous roses, freesias, astilbe, silver brunia & dusty miller

We added a ‘lil sparkle to her bouquet by placing diamond pins in some of the roses & a pretty broach to the handle which becomes a lovely “keepsake” after the bouquet fades

We wrapped the bouquet handle with burlap for a rustic twist & softened it with a touch of lace

Ashley & Liam had  perfect weather for their late summer wedding & a perfect venue that tied in with their rustic/garden theme ~

OMGosh! How adorable! We made these two ‘lil cuties floral crowns to wear down the aisle

Ashley & Liam provided all the watering cans & we filled them hydragea & roses for their guest table centerpieces that 1 lucky guest per table was able to take home

We just loved this couple the first day we met them!

Jenna had a very clear vision of what her wedding should look like & she nailed it. J&C wanted a vintage wedding but instead of using the typical “mason jar” they chose mis-matched vintage vases for their  centerpieces & arrangements

She wanted all her centerpieces & bouquets to feature a single bloom of white flowers

Jenna’s biggest request was that her bouquet had to have peonies! Only problem, peonies are not in season in May….BUT, we found them for her & she was absolutely thrilled!!

Not wanting to spend countless hours & weekends shopping at  antique stores & flea markets, J&C decided to rent all their vintage vases & decor from an amazing vintage rental company located in Whitby~ Southern Charm Vintage Rental

And there is no better venue than Berkeley Church for a vintage wedding!

We had the great pleasure working with this lovely couple. Andrea was such a delight to work with, she has a very bubbly personality

Her wedding flowers reflected her personality perfectly!

Andrea wanted colour & she wanted to incorporate peacock feathers….that was all the instruction she gave us

She did not have any specific blooms in mind. She left that up to us

She was thrilled with her flowers!

We used white & green hydrangeas, purple anemone, tulips, ranunculus, spider mums & peacock feathers

Wrist corsages we made for both the mother of the bride & groom We used a burgundy coloured ranunculus, gypsophilia & of course added in a peacock feather

Found these adorable mini peacocks & we couldn’t resist adding them to the ceremony arrangements

Our next September Wedding

Victoria & Daniel~ Sept. 7, 2013~Royal Ambassador

Not only did we provide all the flowers for this lovely couple, but we also provided Wedding Day Management

The bride & groom chose the Royal Ambassador as their wedding due to the gorgeous outdoor ceremony site. The gazebo & stunning manicured gardens overlook a tree lined pond.

Unfortunately Mother Nature did not co-operate & she rained, hard all day!

Victoria called my cell phone just as she was en route to the venue, hoping I was going to tell her that it was not raining & the sun was shining……um, no

I had to be the bearer of bad news. I had to tell her, her dream wedding wasn’t going to be exactly as she dreamed, we had plan B (inside) set-up & ready to go

All 300+ guests have arrived & are seated, waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle……..then……the rain stopped!

Daniel insisted that his bride was going to have the wedding she dreamed of & myself, my assistant & the amazing RA staff sprung into action & we flipped the ceremony site. All the guests moved outside, after the staff dried off all the chairs, moved all the flowers & lanterns & the DJ moved all their equipment, all in 15 minutes!

Mother Nature kept the rest of the day/night dry from that point on & our couple was so happy as they surprised their guests with an awesome fireworks display!

We have been pretty busy with weddings this year, with many more to go! September has proven to be the busiest wedding month for us, as well as many of my fellow wedding professionals. Maybe it’s the beautiful colours, or the cooler but still warm temperatures?

Thought we would take this opportunity to share with you our most recent wedding. Amit & Preya’s wedding day was a gorgeous day. They celebrated with a traditional hindu ceremony on the Friday, then had a very elaborate wedding reception with over 400 of their closest friends & family at the beautiful Le Jardin~Woodbridge

This is where we come in! We created 46 centerpieces with many shades of pink roses, hanging pearls & 1 floating pink rose in each vase

Not to mention the 2 floral arrangements with pink hydrangeas, stargazer lilies, & hostas flanking the head table, 5 smaller arrangements for the receiving area & all the bouquets, corsages & boutonnieres for the bridal party & family members

It was a long day & a lot of work but it was worth it!
